Compare Home Service Estimates Without Guessing at the Repair

Compare Home Service Estimates Without Guessing at the Repair

You can compare home service estimates without deciding what the repair should involve. Put the written proposals side by side, identify what each provider says is included, and ask each provider to clarify differences in their own words. The goal is a fair comparison of documents, not a technical diagnosis.

Make a like-for-like summary

Start a short table or note for each estimate. Record the provider, date, stated work, listed materials or services, total and any separately listed charges, expected timing, and terms as written. Keep the original document nearby so your summary does not replace its wording.

If one estimate is more general than another, mark the gap as unknown rather than filling it in yourself. For instance, note that one document names removal of old material while another does not mention it.

Ask about differences, not guesses

Send each provider the specific point that needs clarification. Ask whether an item is included, what assumptions the estimate uses, and whether a change would require a revised written estimate. Do not suggest a repair method or assume two differently named services mean the same thing.

Keep the comparison useful

The service appointment preparation checklist helps you gather questions before a conversation. The home service history log offers a place to preserve past provider records. Use the Lucru Home to-do list to track which estimate still needs clarification.

Choose based on the written information and your own priorities, not a guessed technical explanation. Before deciding, list any unanswered question and contact the provider named on that estimate for a written response.
