At the end of the school year, sort papers and supplies into four destinations: return, keep, archive, or clear. This creates a definite ending without forcing every worksheet into a permanent file or mixing the closeout with the weekly flow of new notices.
Gather the year's materials
Set up four labeled areas and work through one child's items at a time. Check folders, backpacks, project containers, and school messages for anything that must go back or needs a reply. Follow school instructions and deadlines for returned materials; do not discard something whose status is unclear.
- Return borrowed books, devices, or equipment as directed
- Keep documents needed for a known next step
- Choose a small number of meaningful projects to archive
- Recycle or discard routine papers that no longer have a purpose
- Set reusable supplies aside for a later inventory
Make keepsakes easy to find
Choose a consistent container or folder for retained work and label it with the student's name and school year. If a child wants to help choose, make room for their preferences. Photographing a project can preserve a memory, but check before clearing an original that matters to them.
Finish with a fresh-start list
The school paper and project routine handles regular incoming papers during the term. The kids' artwork display and archive routine offers a separate way to choose what to display and save. Add the remaining year-end actions to the Lucru Home to-do list.
Close one child's folders today: identify anything to return, choose the keepsakes together, and write a short list of supplies to check before the next school term.
