Loose photo prints are easier to care for when you sort them in small groups before choosing albums or storage. Set out a few clean envelopes, gather one box of prints, and add only the names and dates you can identify with confidence.
Make a few working piles
Create simple groups such as “recognizable people,” “place or event known,” and “not sure yet.” Keep duplicates together and avoid writing directly on the image. A pencil note on an envelope preserves context without marking the print.
- Work with one small stack at a time.
- Ask someone who may know the people or location.
- Keep uncertain details blank instead of guessing.
- Set aside prints that need scanning or sharing.
Choose the next home
Select a few favorite prints for a display or album. Place the remaining groups in labeled photo-safe envelopes or sleeves and store them together. If scanning, use a separate envelope for prints waiting for that task, then return the originals to their labeled group.
The simple household photo archive covers a larger organizing system, while household digital files is useful when scans need a digital home. Add a short reflection note in the Lucru Home journal if recording family context matters to you.
Sort one envelope today
Choose one small stack, label its envelope with names or dates you know, and stop when the session is done. Keep the next unsorted stack together for another day.
